Probabilistic structure matching for visual SLAM with a multi-camera rig

چکیده
We propose to use a multi-camera rig for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), providing flexibility in sensor placement on mobile robot platforms while exploiting the stronger localization constraints provided by omni-directional sensors. In this context, we present a novel probabilistic approach to data association, that takes into account that features can also move between cameras under robot motion. Our approach circumvents the combinatorial data association problem by using an incremental expectation maximization algorithm. In the expectation step we determine a distribution over correspondences by sampling. In the maximization step, we find optimal parameters of a density over the robot motion and environment structure. By summarizing the sampling results in so-called virtual measurements, the resulting optimization simplifies to the equivalent optimization problem for known correspondences. We present results for simulated data, as well as for data obtained by a mobile robot equipped with a multi-camera rig.

Visual SLAM with a Multi-Camera Rig
Camera-based simultaneous localization and mapping or visual SLAM has received much attention recently. Typically single cameras, multiple cameras in a stereo setup or omni-directional cameras are used. We propose a different approach, where multiple cameras can be mounted on a robot in an arbitrary configuration. Allowing the cameras to face in different directions yields better constraints th...
متن کاملLightweight SLAM and Navigation with a Multi-Camera Rig
An interesting recent branch of SLAM algorithms using vision has taken an appealing approach which can be characterised as simple, robust and lightweight when compared to the more established and complex geometrical methods. These lightweight approaches typically comprise mechanical odometry or simple visual odometry for local motion estimation; appearance-based loop closure detection using eit...
متن کاملScale Drift-Aware Large Scale Monocular SLAM
State of the art visual SLAM systems have recently been presented which are capable of accurate, large-scale and real-time performance, but most of these require stereo vision. Important application areas in robotics and beyond open up if similar performance can be demonstrated using monocular vision, since a single camera will always be cheaper, more compact and easier to calibrate than a mult...
متن کاملLearning Deeply Supervised Visual Descriptors for Dense Monocular Reconstruction
Visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) methods typically rely on handcrafted visual features or raw RGB values for establishing correspondences between images. These features, while suitable for sparse mapping, often lead to ambiguous matches at texture-less regions when performing dense reconstruction due to the aperture problem. In this work, we explore the use of learned feature...
متن کاملLeveraging Image-based Localization for Infrastructure-based Calibration of a Multi-camera Rig
Most existing calibration methods for multi-camera rigs are computationally expensive, use installations of known fiducial markers, and require expert supervision. We propose an alternative approach called infrastructure-based calibration that is efficient, requires no modification of the infrastructure (or calibration area), and is completely unsupervised. In infrastructure-based calibration, ...
